The Fourth Gap

A fourth site is added to the Silent Ocean designation after an expected recurring emission from a previously monitored source fails to arrive on schedule for the first time in nine years of continuous observation.

Archive record

Background

The source in question had produced a low-amplitude periodic emission on a highly consistent schedule since monitoring began. This is the first missed occurrence in the observation record.

Field Response

Pattern Analysis dispatched a two-person team to inspect the source directly. No physical change to the site was documented. The absence remains unexplained.

Cross-Reference

A department head flagged the possible relevance of SIG-0024's shortening interval to the Silent Ocean case file, on the theory that a shortening presence and a missing presence could be describing the same underlying process from two directions. This remains a working note, not a finding.
